You can make a difference and volunteer in your Baltimore community with Civic Works. We hold weekly volunteer hours for individual volunteers and work with corporate, school and church groups to create meaningful volunteer projects.

Volunteer Opportunities In & Around Baltimore

Real Food Farm

Produce Delivery Days

We deliver fresh produce every Thursday to older adults and people enrolled in our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.

We need volunteers who:

  • are available Thursday mornings starting around 9:00AM (exact start times are flexible)
  • can give 2-3 hours
  • have a vehicle that can hold 5-10 bags of produce
  • are able to lift 15 lbs, and walk up and down steps
  • have a working cell phone with bluetooth/hands-free calling capability and GPS

Drivers need to:

  • sign up for 2 or 3 hour shifts
  • A 2-hour shift has an average of 5 boxes
  • A 3-hour shift has an average of 10 boxes
  • Have a personal vehicle and be insured & licensed
  • Start and End at Civic Works Firehouse (1749 Gorsuch Ave in 21218)

Real Food Farm

Community Volunteer Days

We welcome volunteers at Real Food Farm every Wednesday from 9am to 12 pm. Projects may include weeding, planting, bed preparation, fruit tree work, compost making, mulching, pathway maintenance, greenhouse work, and more

Community Landscaping Program

Community Volunteer Days

We welcome volunteers every Wednesday from 9 am to 12 pm to help our Community Landscaping Team transform Baltimore City vacant lots into community parks and green spaces. Volunteer activities depend on the design of each location and time of year. They often include planting, mulching, weeding, digging pathways, clearing trash and debris, etc.

9-11 Day of Remembrance

We celebrate September 11th by bringing volunteers and AmeriCorps members together to improve outdoor spaces.

Ricky Myers Day of Service

We bring together more than 200 volunteers on the first Saturday of October to complete projects in communities across Baltimore and honor Ricky Myers, a former Civic Works staff member who devoted his life to service.

Projects include community clean-ups, improving outdoor spaces, and helping nonprofit organizations like The Loading Dock, Second Chance and ShareBaby organize donated supplies.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

We celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through service and by working toward a more just and equitable society, where everyone is valued and respected, regardless of their race, ability, religion, or background. Civic Works brings together more than 200 volunteers on MLK Day every January to improve indoor and outdoor spaces in Baltimore.
