Civic Works’ Center for Sustainable Careers offers paid skills training, on-the-job experience, and wrap-around support for Baltimore residents ready to launch expands access to family-sustaining careers through our Career Pathways programs. After selecting one of three sector-based tracks – utility infrastructure, solar installation, or roofing, we will support you in building the skills you need to secure quality employment. You will receive paid hands-on training through our social enterprise, industry-recognized credentials, wrap-around case management, job placement assistance, and ongoing support in your new job.
Nearly 90% of our graduates have secured employment with starting wages between $17-21/hr and opportunities for advancement. Are you ready to launch your career in a growing industry?

Join the Utility Infrastructure Training track, a program of the BGE Workforce Collaborative!
As a Utility Infrastructure participant, you will receive industry-recognized construction safety certifications and obtain the skills necessary to build a career in this industry. You will work with companies in the region that perform natural gas line repair and replacement, underground utility work, utility locating services, tree care, and general construction.
As a participant, your training will consist of classroom instruction and hands-on learning. A stipend will be paid to selected participants who meet expectations of attendance, punctuality, commitment and responsibility.
Program graduation and employment assistance are based on successfully meeting all program requirements, including but not limited to, demonstration of relevant construction skills, passing course exams, passing regular drug screening throughout the program, punctuality, and attendance.
Graduates are placed into entry-level construction careers with employers that offer a living wage ($16.00-$20.00 per hour) and opportunities for advancement.

Both the roofing and solar roofing industries are growing and local employers in these industries are hiring for full-time, year-round positions.
Your paid training starts with 6-8 weeks of classes at Civic Works in East Baltimore, Monday through Friday, 8am to 3pm. These training classes will include:
After completing the initial training at Civic Works, you’ll complete 4 weeks of paid on-the-job training with one of our roofing or solar installation partner companies in Baltimore City or Baltimore County. During this period, you’ll work full-time with professional crews on their actual worksites, with the possibility of overtime.
