Civic Works’ Center for Sustainable Careers expands access to green jobs and family-sustaining careers through our Career Exploration and Career Pathways programs. We support residents in building the skills needed to secure quality employment, and employers in strengthening their workplace practices. The programs offer paid hands-on construction training, industry-recognized credentials, wrap-around case management, job placement assistance, and ongoing retention support.
More than 1,000 Baltimore residents have graduated from Civic Works’ job training programs.
Our Career Exploration YouthBuild program engages youth and young adults, ages 17-24, through exposure to the construction trades and academic support leading to GED completion. Participants gain on-the-job skills through the construction of housing for local, low-income families. Graduates are well-equipped to either enroll in postsecondary education, find full-time employment, or deepen their job training through the Career Pathways program.
Our Career Pathways program provides green jobs training for careers in the high-demand, high-growth construction and clean energy industries. Participants choose from three specialized tracks: solar installation, roofing, or utility infrastructure. They each include rigorous classroom instruction coupled with hands-on learning and on-the-job training. The program maintains a job placement rate of 85% and starting wages exceeding $18 per hour.
We have four training opportunities: YouthBuild Career Exploration, Utility Infrastructure, Solar Installation and Roofing. Discover which career pathway is right for you.
