Fans, air conditioners distributed to help older adults beat upcoming heat wave

As Maryland enters an upcoming heat wave, we’ve already been looking out for our senior citizens when it comes to the coronavirus and now we have to do so with this heat.

While medical experts have been saying it’s safer to be outside when it comes to the coronavirus, the heatwave will make going outside a little difficult as we also have to keep a close eye out on older residents.

Volunteers at the Civic Works warehouse in east Baltimore are trying to distribute fans and air conditioners by the end of the month to seniors to try and beat the upcoming heatwave.

“We know that the heat in Baltimore can be pretty treacherous. The humidity is a little crazy. We just try to make sure that they’re as comfortable as possible and try to limit the health risks that they have due to the heat,” Civic Works volunteer Ray Smith said.
