Students learn to cook, farm, through Mission Thrive Summer

Mission Thrive Summer, run through Civic Works, wrapped up Friday, with a cooking battle between participants.

All summer long, program participants have been learning to garden, cook and prepare food. They’ve also been on trips around the area to gain new experiences.

And, as a sweet summer bonus–the participants, all in high school, are paid for their time.

Molly McCullagh, education coordinator for Civic Works, said that the participants, since they’re a part of the Summer YouthWorks program, could earn up to $1,000 during the summer.

Participants have been learning to garden at the Real Food Farm in Clifton Park. The farm spans six acres and has several hoop houses and fields for year-round crop growing.
